Pottery Painting Demonstration

Watch this video to get started with your home pottery painting kits!

Please take time to read the whole of this page before you start.

Here’s your colour chart so you can see how the colours will turn out after firing ⤵️

The video mentions your kit will contain a colour chart, however we quickly realised this wasn’t very practical so instead - use this plate to see how the paints change during firing.

Time to get inspired

Think of this as a virtual version of rummaging through our folders of images, but instead you’re gliding through our Pinterest board. Go on, have a look, the team have worked really hard finding loads of great stuff for you and organising it so it’s super easy to find what you’re looking for.If you need more, more, more, check out some of our favourite pottery cafes: Creative Space in Denmark (obviously very cool), The Painting Pottery Cafe in Brighton (our BFF’s) and finally the masterpieces created in our studio.

How could we forget Grayson Perry’s art club?! It’s great, really great. There’s loads of realistic and enchanting chat to get you creating, plus some clay insights from a ceramic master! Some good celebrity guests also stuck indoors, who are getting stuck in too. 10/10 would recommend.

Now for the music! You’ve got to set the mood haven’t you, get that relaxing focus on, or perhaps you need some disco in your life to let your creativity run free. Here’s our offering for you - it’s the Spotify playlist we play in the studio, carefully chosen by our Anna. It covers everything from your classical bangers [The Nutcracker to make it feel as though your brush is practically dancing along the pottery],  to music to get your pulse racing [cue Jurassic Park theme].

Returning your finished pottery + kit

  1. Wash all used brushes and sponges with warm soapy water, smooth the bristles back to a point if possible.

  2. Wrap your painted pottery in the paper it came in, this will protect the paint.

  3. Use the checklist above to make sure you pack everything back into the bag (used paper, cotton buds excluded - they can be disposed of).

  4. If you filled any of your own containers with paint and there’s quite a lot left, please bring them to the studio where we’ll decant the remaining paint back into our big bottles and return your container.

  5. Return your kit and painted pottery to the studio in your allocated time slot [11-1 Friday for weekday kits, or 3-5 on Sunday if you have a weekend kit].

  6. Take care to support the bag as they can get a bit weak after prolonged use.
