What should I wear for a taster throwing session?

Here’s a quick post to settle any pre-throwing fashion worries you’re having!

Generally - you can wear most items of clothing that are easily washable!

Will I get covered in clay?
You might get a fine spray of clay on your shoes / trousers, but we do provide aprons which mostly cover your top half + thighs. Clay will easy wash off clothes on a regular wash cycle, and even better it tends to brush off once dry.

What should I wear?
Most people opt for trousers as you sit on a stool, with your knees on either side of a potters wheel, but again the apron covers most things! A pencil skirt might be a little restricting…

You’ll want either short sleeves, or ones that can be rolled up (and stay rolled up) so you don’t get soggy sleeves. If you like to keep your arms covered, just let us know and we won’t push you - instead you might want to bring a change of top, or wear a sports style material that dries easily.

Should I accessorise my outfit with bling and sassy nails?
Before your session we’ll ask you to remove any jewellery or watches from your elbows down, but if you have a ring you cant get off, don’t worry too much - we’re just concerned about them getting scratched / filled with clay. You might want to do this at home to save any worries about leaving a family heirloom in our apron pockets.

It’s best to tie your hair back, and we advise looping it into a bun if it’s so long your pony tail could swish around and get tangled in the clay.

Finally, as I'm sure you’ll have read on the invoice, short nails are advised as long nails tend to gouge worms of clay out as your making and can make it feel rather more frustrating.

Don’t worry too much we’ve given a lot of detail above but its pretty relaxed really - people arrive for surprise throwing lessons and do just fine!

And finally while we’re talking about surprises - if you’re surprising someone and want to be super prepared bring them a bobble and a nail file just in case.
