Christmas Market for local makers + sellers - would you like to be part of it?

We’re looking for craftspeople + makers from across Newcastle to be part of our Christmas indoor market. The market will take place on Sunday 13th December and promises to be a real celebration of the talent and creativity in our community. Think mulled wine, twinkling lights and gorgeous gifts.

To compliment this we are looking for other makers + producers to sell alongside you. We’re thinking illustrators, ceramicists, knitters, honey, cheese, jewellery, wreaths + basically anything else you think would make a great gift. If you know anyone that might be interested in taking part, please forward this message to them or ask them to get in touch with us!

If you’re interested, do read on for all the details :)

The location: the market will be held inside + outside of our spacious and colourful studio, which is located in Jesmond just off Osborne Road. It’s a space that’s usually used for pottery making and painting workshops , but alas with the current restrictions it’s been empty for the majority of this year, and we want to fill it with creativity for one last hurrah of 2020. The studio is nestled between enchanting antiques shops, a fave with treasure seekers and interior designers alike. Alongside our devoted audience of basically anyone who likes doing nice things and dabbling in a spot of casual crafting, the location brings a huge variety of people to our door.

Spaces: each maker will be offered a table to set up shop, we’ve got additional side tables, stools + chairs which can be used, or you can bring your own if you’ve got a snazzy set up you’d like to use. The tables vary in size from a snug 4 seater, to big pottery tables that seat 10. If you’d rather team up with a friend / collective you can share a stall, but we can only have one person manning the stall at a time unless they are in your bubble. We’ll prioritise indoor tables for makers + if we exceed our indoor capacity those selling sealed food or floristry products will be offered outside spaces.

Event timings:Set up: Saturday 12th December 2-5pm for the main set up of indoor stalls + Sunday 13th December: 8:30am-9:30am for finishing touches + outdoor stall set up.Market opening time: Sunday 13th December 10am-3pm (or until you sell out!)

Pricing: we know this year has been a tough year for the self employed + those in hospitality, so the stall is yours for free! All we ask is a £25 deposit to be paid up front, which is refundable providing 5 days notice is given if you need to drop out. This deposit is only to guarantee visitors get a market jammed with glorious produce that we’ve promised them! If you opt for an outdoor space and it’s forecast for pouring rain / strong wind your deposit will be refunded.

Good to know: the studio is on Fern Avenue has free parking 10am-5pm on Saturdays and free all day on Sundays, making it a dream for visitors (and for you to set up + take down your stall). We’re also within easy walking distance of both Jesmond + West Jesmond metro, loads of local bus routes and jam packed in the middle of a bustling community for those who wish to wander over on foot.

The market will be ticketed so we can have a rough idea of how many people will be attending at each time of the day, as we do need to limit the number of people in the studio at each time. Tickets will be sold through eventbrite and will be priced at £2.50 [entry only] / £5 [entry + a drink on arrival]. All profits from tickets will be donated to local food banks. The only costs we’ll be subtracting will be to cover the drinks.

We’re also hoping to tie down the infamous Fern Avenue Lockdown Orchestra to see if they’d like to raise some festive cheer + fundraise for a charity of their choosing as they have done very successfully many times this year.

If you need someone to man your stall, we have a team of super talented potters who double up as sales assistants who would happily step in, in return for a fee for their time.

Marketing: The Pottery Experience will be promoting the event on our social media + to our mailing list. There will be a poster printed which will be distributed to local businesses + available for you to print. It will be black and white, printed on coloured paper to keep costs down + allow it to be easily reproduced. Personal invites will be sent to our friends in local businesses, magazines + newspapers. Each maker will be required to promote the event on their own platform.
